Savage's description of the bureaucracy involved in the adoption process does at times threaten to turn THE KID into a service-oriented manual, albeit a very specifically niche-marketed one. He walks us through the legal issues, the paperwork, and the waiting, but makes this sometimes tedious affair seem like fun by weaving in witty personal anecdotes and scenes of local color.
